NEW CPT CODES FOR 2004

Below are two new CPT codes for 2004 that are of importance to pathologists:

88112 Cytopathology, selective cellular enhancement technique with interpretation (e.g., liquid based slide preparation method), except cervical or vaginal

Use this code to report ThinPreps^® performed on fluids, eg, pleural fluid, ascitic fluid, urine. Do not use this code with the code for other concentration techniques, e.g., cytospin (CPT code 88108).

88361 Morphometric analysis; tumor immunohistochemistry (e.g., Her-2/neu, estrogen receptor/progesterone receptor) quantitative or semi-quantitative

Use this code for reporting computer assisted immunoassay procedures, e.g., Chromavision^®. Use for both the technical preparation and for the pathologist interpretation of automated image analysis on fixed tissue. Do not use with CPT codes 88358 or 88342.
